Greetings Experts!

On this, your "home group" page, you will be writing a brief article about what you learned about each of the topics: Alcatraz, Al Capone, autism, and the Great Depression. Each of your paragraphs should paraphrase the five w's, h + double w that you learned. Pretty much, you are writing a brief article about what you learned, making sure you answered who, what, where, why, when, how and why it is important. Your group will be reading your page, and the others in the class, to learn about all of the topics.

Al Capone

Al Capone is one of the hardest gangsters in the Alcatraz prison. Al Capone was born on January 17, 1899. He was one of the hardest gangsters because he started the Chicago mob. He started it by him and his gang got people and then went on a riot. Another bad thing he did was that he dressed up two people in their gang as police men. So they went into the other gang’s hideout and they shot them all. He also was sighed to go to Alcatraz on August 22, 1934 he got let out on November 16, 1939. He was in the Alcatraz prison for 5 years! That’s not a lot for what he did. The reason it’s not a lot because he was always found not guilty at court and I don't understand how. Lastly he died on January 25, 1947.

Alcatraz

Alcatraz was a huge prison on its own island off the coast of San Francisco. It was built on an island so it would be harder for inmates to escape. It had three hundred-plus cells, but it is now a museum. Alcatraz was closed in 1963, and was a symbol of very strict discipline. It was shut down as a prison because it was hard to maintain and keep running in order. It also was spending more money than the prison could make. They had to ship goods from San Francisco to the island, and that was quite costly. It was a federal penitentiary from 1859 to 1932. Alcatraz was a military fort before it became a prison, and the fort was built on an island so it would be more difficult to attack. Some criminals that stayed at Alcatraz were Al Capone, Robert Straud, Abie Maldowitz, and Rufe McLain. The prison staff members lived on Alcatraz Island with their families. “There were three apartment buildings, one large duplex, and four large wooden houses for senior officers.”The guard’s children were taken to school by boat to the closest San Francisco school. There are more than ten buildings on Alcatraz Island. It’s filled with well designed structures, procedures, and correctional programs. The buildings are very strong and well-made. This is significant enough to research and learn about because Alcatraz is a huge tourist attraction and it housed some of the most notorious criminals.

Another disaster is that during 1929-1933 banks fell apart more than 35%, also farm incomes fell about to 50%. Every single day getting worse and worse people loosing everything. Later on unployment rate rose to 1.5 million to 12 million, just because everything was shutting down. By 1932 every one out few Americans lost their jobs to the Great Deperssion. People even little kids on the streets with signs saying donate money to help them. Then later things had got better and better people were getting their jobs back because they have been producing more jobs, so that gives people a chance to get their job back. A picture of Autism Awareness

Autism is a word we hear quite often these days. In our town, people who have autism range from not being able to talk, to not even knowing they have it. Autism is “A disturbance in psychological development in which use of language reaction to stimuli, interpretation of the word, and the formation of relationships are not fully established and fallow unusual patterns.” Autism has roots in very early brain development; behaviors change between 2-3 years of age, and kids are 4 times more likely for boys to have it than girls. Scientist aren’t sure what causes autism, but they think it has to do with genetics, and the environment. Also you get autism, when nerve cells called neurons don’t carry messages to the drain. This helps you be able to remember, hear, see, feel, and move. So it is mostly in your brain. One of the major signs of autism is social interaction. People with autism avoid eye contact with other people. They don’t seem to understand social cues. (Such as facial expressions) and they lack empathy. People with autism tend to do repitive movements such as rocking, twirling, or maybe even banging their head. Some parents, and doctors recognize autism with some of the fallowing “symptoms” no babbling or pointing by 12 months. No response by own name, weak eye contact, excessive organization of toys, and no social responsiveness. Once diagnosed with autism it’s hard to make friends, having a conversation with others, not much social play, obsessive ness with certain objects., and they need a specific routine. Many people with autism can improve, with treatment and with age. With support, and assistance many people with autism, can lice successfully. There are ways to improve autistic behaviors by, behavioral interventions and medications. Even though living with autism can be difficult, many people can live a successful life.
